Kirkwood is a suburban municipality just 15 miles southwest of Downtown St. Louis. The city is mainly a residential community but with shopping and recreational opportunities within walking distance from most homes within the city. There is a main recreation complex with a swimming pool, ice ring and fitness facilities. There are many parks within the city that provide you with everything from youth baseball, softball, soccer and tennis to picnic and bar-b-que areas. Along with these areas, is a well-organized parks and recreation department that provides programs, classes, youth leagues for just about any interest. There are a few large grocery store chains within the city and a few small neighborhood grocery stores. There are several banks, restaurants and many unique boutique type shops. There are many varieties of homes with prices from the low $100,000 to homes that are over a million dollars. There are homes where your backyard borders one of the city parks. There are homes on private streets and homes on public streets. There are a few new homes, along with century old homes and of course, all ages between. As far as education goes, along with your home comes a top-notch public school system or the private parochial school. There are several grade schools yours will be close to your home. There is one high school towards the center of town that your kids may enjoy a ride to if you decide on a home father away. Your commute to downtown St. Louis would be a 20-25 minute ride using Interstate 44, which runs close to Kirwood. Along this same route you would also be passing places like Forest Park, the home of the 1904 Worlds Fair and St. Louis Zoo. Washington University and St. Louis University are also along this same route. Kirkwood is another great choice as a place to live in the St. Louis area. |
